Venus by Ercole Rosa (1846-1893) - Rosa is best known for the equestrian statue of Vittorio Emanuele which stands on the piassa in front of the Milan cathedral. His life bridged the Risorgimento, the liberation of Italy from foreign domination. It is therefore, not surprising to find statues of the king of the new born Italy: Manzoni, the revered poetical leader of the revolt: and Garibaldi, the military commander of the insurrection, among the works which he executed during those turbulent times.
