St. Nicholas as the wealthy Bishop of Myra, was so generous and compassionate, that for three consecutive nights he secretly tossed a purse of gold coins through the window of a destitute nobleman. St. Nicholas is therefore symbolized by three gold coins and has become the Patron Saint of Children.
